laziness bites the dust...

Okay, I've been lazy.  But that leads to many Friday things to chat about...

Happy take your pup to work day!  Dental Student is working in the hospital's clinic this summer and I work in a courthouse, so Havi can't come with us.  So make us jealous, tell us if your pup is coming to work!  We heard that productivity increases if you bring your pup, but we think we'd just cuddle Havi all day!

We've been checking the mail everyday because Havi is expecting TWO packages!  Our awesome painting by Art By Elizabeth, that we won for being her 5th blog follower.  You all helped us pick out the best photo for her to paint...check out which photo won.  Maisie and Me had reader appreciation week and we won a deer antler, and our Ultimate Chewer is excited to attack!

We started up a Facebook page, and we're getting better at integrating it with the blog and Twitter so please "Like" us.  Constant pics and updates about a cute pup - sounds like a plan!

Law Student tried out a new sushi restaurant with her oldest friends last night.  Poke is a BYOB Sushi place on the Upper East Side that does not take reservations.  I hate when restaurants don't take reservations.  But I love BYOB.  So I consider that a wash.  The food was delicious - we shared edamame, black cod, and tuna avocado salad.  Then I had a spicy trio combination of sushi rolls.  The food was delicious, but the portions were very small.  It was moderately priced.  I would go back, but I'm not running there.

This is Havi resting her chin on things.  I can't resist any pup resting their chin on things.  Its too cute.

Hope you don't mind if I knock over your coasters...

Two weeks ago Law Student came home to see 4 FDNY trucks outside the apartment building.  When I came into the building my doormen informed me there was a power surge and the power has been out for hours.  All I could think was that Havi was in the apartment for 5 hours without air conditioning.  I ran up the stairs to her.  Luckily, our apartment was not affected and Havi was just a little antsy (there were firemen on every floor) but perfectly unharmed.  I made sure the building will now email its residents if the power goes out in the future.  The building management emailed us earlier this week to update us on renovations in lieu of the outage (people lost power permanently and needed appliances replaced!), and reminded everyone who lost TV's, laptops, etc when the surge occurred to submit a claim to their renter's insurance.  Thats when I said out loud "oops."  We didn't have renter's insurance!  If we had been affected by the surge (and many, many friends of ours had) we would've lost our two televisions and laptops, all bought within the past two years.  So Dental Student called State Farm and got us covered!  For the entire year we paid $130 up front for $35,000 worth of coverage.  So...not exactly pup insurance, but something to keep in mind in these summer months, and something we should've signed up for a few years ago.

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend?!

  2. renter's insurance is a must! I have had State Farm for years (since long before I had Maisie) because my auto policy is with them as well, and was happy to learn they are one of the only companies that does not ask the breed of your dog. last year I got a quote from Progressive just for comparison's sake and because they DID ask Maisie's breed, the renter's insurance cost more than 3x what State Farm charges. so I say poo on you, Progressive! as for this weekend, it's Pride here so since I'm an official hag (with the t-shirt to prove it), I've got a party and a parade to attend! which unfortunately means a bit more weekend crate time than usual for Miss Maisie...

  3. I work from here so the pups are with me. Bailey would love to go to work with Dad, but they only have a take your kids to work day. Bailey is very distressed that they do not include fur kids.

Katy is hoping the rain stops so she gets that walk in the woods she was promised for her birthday.

  4. The painting of Havi turned out beautifully! Really nice picture of a great subject. :)

It is great that your apartment will now email if the power goes out. You might want to consider surge protectors for those tvs and laptops too. Well worth the cost rather than having to replace. Did they figure out what caused the surge?

  5. I think I worry a lot, but that's good because it made me a crazy pet-insurance and renter's insurance person. A couple of year's ago I had my purse stolen when I was visiting Pittsburgh and my renter's insurance covered everything (they replaced my purse, wallet, cash, etc--it'a amazing how expensive the contents of our purses can be). I told everyone at work my story, and a couple of months later someone had broken into my Assistant's apartment, and she had to run over and tell me how glad she was because she had renter's insurance.

  7. No pups aloud at my work or the Mr.'s work :( The painting is beautiful! I could cry just looking at it; can't imagine how excited you are.

  8. I wish my past employers would have allowed me to brings my boys to work. Only I don't think it would've been a very productive day for me - Shiver is very insistent on attention sometimes and won't leave me alone until he gets it.

I don't rent so I don't have to worry about renter's insurance. When I did rent though, I didn't carry it. Probably not very smart of me. I keep meaning to call and see if my home insurance covers fires.

No fun weekend planned for me - just spending it with my father who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I'll likely spend it watching him sleep. That seems to be most of what he does these days.

  9. Ah I wish I could have brought Miss Molly to work! Good thinking on the renters insurance! Definately worth it, I never had it when I rented with roommates but hindsight is always 20/20. I am glad your apartment went unharmed (especially Havi)! I am still on the hunt for a foster dog so I might persue that more this weekend, other than that just some quality Molly and me time.

  12. Woooohooo for the antler! I hope you're getting a whole one, not a center-cut one, as the marrow can be very rich and terrible for dogs with sensitive tummies, like Havi's. If you are getting a center-cut one, make sure to limit Havi's chewing -- I don't want such an amazing chew thing to end in disaster!

Elli, my dad and I are going to a U-Pick farm this weekend! I know she's looking forward to sneaking some blueberries off the branches ;)

  13. Hey Havi!
Wow, getting mail is so much fun! We'd like to see pix of your pressies when they come. Great pix of your chin work. Knocking things over is fun for us and gives our peeps some action too! Good job. Glad your territory was okay.
I'm hoping for a nice walkie today...maybe a swimmie tomorrow.

  15. I'm not sure how I ended up here but I LOVE your blog! I've been putting off renter's insurance for a while now. I was worried it would be hard to get with a German Shepherd...we went through so much trouble finding an apartment that would let us have a German Shepherd and they all told us it was insurance related. Anyway, Havi is adorable and I'm glad everything turned out okay!

  16. We both work from home so the pack gets to spend EVERYday at work. They usually camp out in the dads office and keep an eye out for any Fedex people who dare to come to the house.

No plans this weekend besides some trips to the local antique shops.
