its so hard to be wordless on a wednesday...

Last night at 8:37 New York City time, Passover ended. That meant that the Two Grad Students could finally eat bread and other leavened things! We decided to celebrate by meeting for Havi's long walk at Madison Square Park. Dental Student was working in the apartment with Havi and Law Student was at the library so it was fun to meet in the middle at the Park. In the Park is New York's famous Shake Shack! There are three locations in New York for this modern burger stand. The line can be up to a one hour wait for the coveted burgers and shakes. We got on the line on Law Students way home from the library at 7:05 and got our food at 8:17!

We had: A single cheeseburger, ShackStack, regular fries, cheese fries, strawberry and chocolate shakes. They even boast a pooch-ini, but we couldn't get it because Havi's tummy is still to sensitive.

Also, today we ordered Missing Link Probiotic. Havi is officially on Evo dog food for four days after weaning her off Hill's Science and Flagyll over a two week period. Her waste is now verrry loose, and we had a feeling a probiotic may do the trick to balance out the Evo. Dental Student read all about probiotics in class and Dental Student's parents were instructed to give it to their pit mix, the famous Aunt Molly, by their vet. Dental Student ordered it from PetsTruly.com, one of the few sites that carry it. We'll update on how it works, and let us know what you think of this addition to her diet. Has anyone else tried this?

Dealwise:
- It's 31cent scoop day at Baskin Robbins! These deal fiends are heading over there after a long day at the library!
-We wrote in our old blog about the benefits of a CVS drug store points card, and today we were reminded why. After paying for some medications and bathroom supplies we received a coupon for 25% off our entire next purchase. If you have a CVS by you, definitely compare it to the deals at your corner store.

  1. I give Maisie enzyme powder with her raw and also an acidophilus tablet every night (available at most drugstores or Whole Foods). her poops are still not usually "firm" (oh the things we discuss in the name of our dog's health) but they have been less loose since I started with the acidopilus. bonus...we share the bottle so I remember to take one every night too! :)

  2. We used EVO food for a while, and found that what came out the other end stabilized after about a week with no special supplements . . . but do let us know how it goes!

  3. I've never heard of probiotic supplements before. We've been pretty lucky that our dog can eat anything and it doesn't seem to have an affect on her digestive system. But I am sure this will change as she ages. It may be something to keep in mind.

I could go for a cheeseburger right about now...

  5. I used to give Sophie acidophilus powder (bought it at Whole Foods)with her food. It took a year to find a food that worked for her. Good luck and hope Havi's tummy settles soon!

  6. What a great way to break the fast! And I'm sure waiting with Havi helps make waiting easier. Luckily, we haven't had many stool problems lately, but interested to see how yours works out.

  8. Yes we used it for Storm when she was having issues and we couldn't find a food that worked for her. It really helped. Once we found the right food (and I think because her body matured), we were able to phase it out.

  9. Hard to be wordless... when you're a grad student! ;)

I personally have found it's not always easy to be a frugal grad student with pets, but you're right that the extra love makes it totally worth it. Havi is a beauty, and looks like a real sweetie.

For probiotics, we just give about 2 teaspoons of plain, nonfat yogurt every morning. We also have acidophilus on hand for more radical food shifts, but our guys don't seem to have super sensitive tummies -- except with certain proteins. Not sure how specially formulated probiotics for dogs are any different, but it'll probably help!
