havi's morning routine

Havi has a very distinct morning routine, with an underlying theme of laziness. Havi could easily sleep until noon without a bathroom break or eating. She just looooves sleeping.

At 6AM the Grad Students get out of bed...Havi acts as if this is a big annoyance to her, and hides her face in the blankets.

She does some stretching,

And some posing....

Sometimes she switches to the cooler floor,

Eventually she'll come into the bathroom, without regard for the fact that two people and a pittie in our small bathroom is not really conducive to getting ready...

She usually follows me into the kitchen while I make lunches hoping to get scraps (which never happens, but persistence is key!)

She even gives me the sweet face, hoping to bribe me

She then sighs and walks over to the welcome mat where she gives me the stink eye

Then she follows me outside to water the plants and smell the flowers

She'll roll around on her back while the Grad Students do their morning computer routine

Then away we go to get our morning coffee and take our morning walk!

The other day while reading one of our favorite blogs, Rescued Insanity, I realized that I was mispronouncing her pup Shiva's name. I started to ponder is it "Shee-va" or "Shih-va?" Then I realized people may not know that Havi is pronounced "Ha-vee" with a short a.

the wisdom teeth strike again

Well this weekend was supposed to be super fun...Saturday we were going to head over to Washington Square Park for the Adoptapalooza and perhaps the outdoor drinking venue on the pier, Frying Pan. Then head over to Havi's Favorite Babysitter's birthday party at the new hotspot, Lexicon. Sunday we were going to wake up early to support Law Student's Best Friend at the 2011 NYC Walk Now for Autism Speaks in the beautiful South Street Seaport then run with Havi uptown to the Salute to Israel Day Parade and top the day off with X-Men: First Class.

Key word is SUPPOSED to be fun. Dental Student got his wisdom teeth out Friday and that led to a weekend of laying around, watching movies, and finally on Sunday venturing out to see X-Men: First Class. We loved it, by the way!

I must say, pups definitely know when something is wrong. Havi was an angel all weekend, curling up perfectly next to Dental Student and keeping herself busy with bones and balls. Its times like these we love having our pup around to cuddle.

We wanted to hang up our blinds and collage wall, but all we got to do was hang up our blinds from Ikea.

Our flowers also sprouted!

We haven't gone to the vet for so long ever since so many of you helped with Havi's tummy problems.

We have tried to ask ourselves each time something is wrong "if she were a human, would we go to the doctor?" This advice, from Maisie and Me, seems to have done the trick. But when I saw these on Havi's lip, we decided to go.

The vet determined they were viral warts! Yuck! Anyone else ever have this problem? Havi, as per her usual self, does not seem to care or notice!

the destruction continues...

We have spoken about toys before, and Havi's destructive nature. Havi can chew through ANYTHING! We are really lucky, and Havi chewed through one wooden piece on my desk and one shoe her first week here, and then never ever anything of ours again. However, she can destroy any toy in her path.

Havi's toy bin is a sad sea of Kongs, tennis balls, the odd rope, and an IQ ball when we feel like listening to the annoying noise.

So when we asked for suggestions many of you noted antler chews and Tuffy Toys. You all knew we were super excited when Pawsley.com had a sale on Tuffy Toys through the Web site Indestructible Dog.

Well, the level 10 Mega Tuffy Toy Ring came two days later and Havi was ecstatic. It even came with us on bathroom breaks. That is, for the 48 hours its survived...

We officially give up. We've tried to teach her to be gentle, and she is not destructive in the house. So for now, poor-little-rich-girl Havi gets tennis balls, Kongs, and ropes.

mid-week meanderings...

We're super excited! We had a special Satuday post last week for Sarge's Peeps On Parade. It was so fun learning about the people behind the computer, instead of the pups for once! Well, this morning we found out that everyone who participated in POP was entered into a contest and Havi won! Check it our on Sarge's blog, here! We won Havi a new collar! She won't stop smiling! Also, Tucker, over at Tucker Tells All told us yesterday that he can't comment on our blog recently, is this happening to anyone else? It has been happening to us for days now with Love and a Six-Foot Leash which is KILLING us, because we want to congratulate their foster on being adopted!

Lastly, we wanted to give a heads up about a cool NYC event this Saturday to plan into your weekend. Its Adoptapalooza NYC 2011! Gorgeous Washington Square Park outside NYU, and also the site of this weekend's World Science Festival (Dental Student is a science geek), will be hosting this awesome event. TONS of adoptable pups will be there as well as an agility course for your pup. If you were thinking of adopting, this is your weekend. Unfortunately, our NYC Pitbull Group Meet-Up let us know via email this morning that 28 pups (mostly pits) are on this morning's euth list at the ACC.

Many people ask us why we adopted, instead of bought a pup. People think that adopted pups come with inherent behavioral and physical problems. Many more ask us why we adopted a pit bull (or at least a Havi that looks like a pittie). So today we thought we'd ask for your help! What are the number 1 reasons you (a) adopt and (b) adopt a pittie!?!

long weekend fun!

We we're thrilled to pass this Gap, whose window carried our summer mantra "The city clears and its all yours."

This weekend was super fun and busy. We always say that we get more done in a morning than most people get done all day!

Our long weekend started on Thursday, when we took 2 subways and a bus over to Ikea to start up our routine of fixing up the apartment this weekend. Havi wasn't thrilled that she couldn't come or even help put the coffee table together! We then headed out to Long Island for Law Student' littlest brother's Awards Ceremony where he won the PRIDE Award, for embodying the values of the school. At Penn Station they have a new restaurant, Chickpea, which is all over the city and serves baked falafel!

Friday morning we woke up to the handymen knocking on the door to replace our floor that mysteriously buckled. Apparently the parquet floor was laid down in 1985 when the building was built and the humidity this week has really affected it. When Dental Student came back from a few classes and errands, the fun began! The threepeasinapod packed up our bags and headed into Midtown. We cut through the ever-camera-ready Grand Central Station.

Havi was thrilled to lay on the cold marble floor.

For each other's birthdays we always like to do something experiential. So last year, for Dental Student's birthday we took an Urban Oyster Food Cart Tour. New York City has food carts everywhere, some sell pretzels and hot dogs. But others sell cuisine by pretty famous chefs. Food carts and permits are not cheap to come by, but the food they sell is. Food Trucks are becoming increasingly famous around here as well. Midtown, which is where the large majority of the city works, has the highest concentration of food carts.

We attended my favorite, the Biryani Cart (who won the 2008 and 2009 People's Choice Award at the Vendy Awards) for Buradi and King Koti Kati Rolls. The kati rolls are spicy!!

Then we headed over to El Rey del Sabor, for a delicious quesadilla.

While looking for somewhere to sit, we found this outdoor eating area, which worked out pretty well!

Besides the fact that these fun food carts have superb food, its cheap too! For our Kati Rolls, quesadilla, and 3 waters it was only $16.

We passed Gramercy Park, a beautiful private park where Havi needed to take a break. She insists on wearing black, what can I say?

Next, we headed uptown to Home Depot. We bought all the supplies to paint the apartment, and Havi rode her first escalator which everyone seemed to love!

We passed some pretty "only in New York City" things, like this giant yellow bear on Park Avenue, even Havi laughed!

Saturday we spent the day fixing up the house, putting the coffee table together, fixing the lights, painting and planting.

We took a break during painting to head over to the Union Square Greenmarket. It was really hot out at this point of the day and Havi's paws hurt on the concrete, so she took every opportunity to plop and pant. Last week, we asked for suggestions of what to do this weekend and Reilly/Bree over at CowSpotDog recommended a farmer's market. This worked out well, because we needed some fun stuff. We bought compost soil, petunias, lillies, and a fresh baguette for our MDW BBQ.

We saw this man playing an interesting instrument,

Havi stopped frequently for a water break on the hot concrete,

then modeled the bread and jam stands.

Sunday we woke up early to receive our Fresh Direct BBQ order, then headed over to Hummus Kitchen a fun, outdoor, pup-friendly mediterranean restaurant. There, a woman told Havi she could sit near her and gave her water then started debating about the dangers of owning a pit bull, despite Havi sitting quietly tucked under our table! Her concluding line was "if you stick a pencil in Havi's ear, she'll bite you." Sometimes, it's not worth arguing...

After cleaning up the apartment, we said goodbye to Havi and went to Hoboken for a BBQ and met Baxter, an American Bull Dog (or so they say).

Monday we woke up and were VERY excited for our first party in our apartment - a BBQ with our parents.

Lastly, we saw a late night showing on Friday of Hangover 2 with our tickets from a Fandago.com LivingSocial deal. It was VERY funny, and not overdone. Although, a little graphic so leave the pups and kiddies at home. I also finished up Running With Scissors by Augusten Burrows. It was very well-written and I am glad I read it, but it was a little "too much" crazy for me, and therfore only gave it a 2 out of 5 on GoodReads. You guys gave me some great reading suggestions, so I have tons of fun stuff to read this summer!

After movies, books, painting and fixing, errands, food carts, Chickpea, outdoor brunch, farmer's markets, bbqs, and parades we remembered why we love living in NYC, just two grad students and a pittie in the city that never sleeps!
