bored pup...but not for long!

The long awaited week has finally come! After 6 weeks of 14 hour study days 7 days a week, the last week of studying is upon us! At 3:30 today, Law Student will have completed her finals, and at 3:50 on Friday, Dental Student is free as well!

Well, what are Grad Students to do now that finals are over?! A few of you asked what finals ending exactly "means" so...

Law Student will begin an internship after Memorial Day Weekend with a well-known, private, non-profit defense legal services organization. In one week from today, Dental Student will begin Clinicals at the hospital his school is affiliated with. The best part about this summer - we're off on weekends! Which means many, many fun things to do with Havi and many things to share with you!

It cracks us up that pups never know what's "really" going on. So when it rained yesterday and Havi couldn't lay in her Favorite Spot she was beyond bored. As bored as she's been the past 6 weeks! I took some pictures of our bored pup, with the happy knowledge that her boredom will make a complete 180 as of 3:30 today!
She usually switches from pig on a stick position...
...to curled up in a ball on the bed position.
Thought shed check out the toy that was taken away
And even rest her chin on the couch, thinking that maybe one day shell be allowed on it...

Lastly, we'll bug you everyday this week. We're not big contesters, we never win anything, but we've been needing a new collar/leash for Havi for quite some time and have been shopping on Etsy and Sirius Republic. Sirius Republic (a brand that makes leashes, collars, and dog tags and has an awesome blog and Facebook) is having a contest about Togetherness, and we obviously entered! If you feel like helping us out, hop over to Sirius Republic's Facebook Page. "Like" it, then "Like" the picture of the the Three Peas in A Pod (aka Two Grad Students and a Pittie) so that we can win a coveted collar and dog tag from this great company. If we win, you get to vote to help us pick the one we want!

Have a great Monday, we know we will!

P.S. as of today, well try to get back to our regularly scheduled morning Monday-Friday posts!

New Leash?!

As Im sure you know, Blogger is acting up. So we'll save our review of our new Tuffy toy for next week.

In the meantime, Sirius Republic (a brand that makes leashes, collars, and dog tags and has an awesome blog and Facebook) is having a contest about Togetherness, and we obviously entered! If you feel like helping us out, hop over to Sirius Republic's Facebook Page. "Like" it, then "Like" the picture of the the Three Peas in A Pod (aka Two Grad Students and a Pittie) so that we can win a coveted collar and dog tag from this great company.

When I instructed Dental Student to "Like" it, he told me he needed to "see the whole album first, maybe he may like a different photo better!"

We've been trying to pick out a new leash from Sirius Republic for about a month now, a lot of our blogger friends are sporting them and Havi feel like shes the uncool kid on the block. So please leave suggestions with your favorite design in the comments. (I can probably convince Dental Student she needs a new one, even if we don't win the contest!)

P.S. Blogger, can we please have all our comments from yesterday back? People had some great ideas!

who are we missing?

Sometimes, we find ourselves talking about our favorite blogs and the pups in them as if we actually know them:

"Did you see Miss M's wave trick?"
"Did you notice Gonzo fits so neatly in a car?"
"Maisie's mom is on vacation!"

So it struck us as funny when someone noted yesterday that the landscape outside our balcony is familiar and another exclaim they didn't even realize we had a balcony. We forgot that people follow our lives as well, and notice/remember things. So today when For the Pitbulls ask what other blogs we read, we thought we'd ask you guys, what are your favorites/some blogs we'd love?

Today, Law Student is once again studying from home. I have one final left, and its not until Monday. After 4 straight weeks of waking at 7am and coming home at 8pm I told Dental Student to take the day to finish up work in the lab and study what he needs in the library. I planned to do a half day of work and a half day to get my head on straight.

So after catching up on only the really important email and bills, emptying garbages, and taking a shower, I decided to get my first pedicure since December to "unwind." I left Havi with her usual Kong o' Kibble and left.

So, I was freaked out while walking down my hallway after being gone a mere 1.5 hours griping over a doctor bill I received in the mail (who has now charged me 5 times for the same procedure) when I heard barking. There are a few pups on our floor, and a few are barkers. But Havi is the only pup over 10 pounds, and the bark from a 55lb pittie is quite different than an 8lb Havanese. I knew it was Havi barking. This is disturbing because Havi is not a barker. I know, I know every parent says their dog or kid "never does that." But Ive never said Havi is perfect. But she is NOT a barker. Never has been. She barks only when very scared. So I ran down the hall. I open the door to see Havi cowering in the corner of the apartment, and not waiting at the door. I walk over to her to see whats wrong, at which point she gets up, walks over to her Kong and backs up in defensive pup mode (if I'm not explaining this well, its the stance when pups are about to play when they crouch down on their front paws challengingly). She does this several times, to signify that her Kong is what shes scared of. This isnt the first time Havi has been scared of a random object. Shes did this to Dental Student's finger last week! Is this weird?! Does anyone have ANY clue what Im talking about?!

the solace of home

Today Dental Student and I switched places. That's how I found out what Havi does all day. She found her favorite summer spot, on our balcony! We recognize all we have out there is our BBQ, table with two chairs and her blanket. We just decorated the rest of the apartment, if your remember previous posts and some things get decorated before others. We didn't realize Havi would pose so frequently out there!
I frequently lament that Havi won't sit still for any pictures, but apparently in her Favorite Place, the picture taking opportunities are abundant.
Havi does not like mugging for the camera, but she knew a belly rub was coming if she sat. (Yes, she knows her ears are uneven - but you're not perfect either!)
What's your pup's favorite summer spot? And throw us ideas for sprucing ours up on our Grad Student budget!

are house rules for the pup or the grad students?

I need a quick break from being a Law Student. (Sorry these postings have been at such random times throughout the day, instead of when we get up in the morning.) Additionally, sorry there are no cute Havi pics, because I haven't been home during normal hours in quite some time.

Let's take a quick time travel back to last night (insert Full House time travel special effects):

There are a few rules in our house, none of them too intense...

1. Don't go to bed angry (stay up and fight!)
2. If you took it out, you put it back (this means you, Havi)
3. Put any events or appointments you may have on the calendar
4. Make the bed (usually Havi's best chore)
5. No dogs and toys on the bed. Just dogs, no toys

Now, this no toys on the bed makes sense. Havi's a chewer, she wouldn't realize if she's chewing happily chomping on her bone and grabs some blanket in her mouth. Havi picked up on the rule real fast, shes never really tried to bring a toy up there.

Last night, I was minding my own business around 11PM at night in the living room, when Dental Student comes running in to let me know Havi is bleeding. I run to Havi, which Dental Student (he is going to be a doctor) has under control. I go into the bedroom, which looks like a crime scene on my beautiful sheets and blanket. I am about to ask what happened, when in the mess of sheets I find a ball, a Kong tennis ball to be exact. (It is at this point that I would like to point out I may make a better detective than a lawyer.)

Dental Student exclaims from the other room "I can't imagine how this happened!" Oh really, I can...Dental Student practicing Havi's famous "I can catch this ball with my mouth trick" on the bed, next to a sharp heat unit. I can imagine.

Today as I was sitting reading a legal book I posed the question "but who was this law made for?" That got me to thinking "but who were these house rules made for?" It seems to me Havi wasn't able to think to bring the ball up on to the bed and have someone throw it up to her all on her own...

Okay, I give in...stock Havi photo:

its the little things...

We love Fresh Direct. We debate about whether its cheaper than a full shop in a grocery store in NYC (you will be amazed by the prices in this city). However, with all else being equal, if you sign up for a "Delivery Pass" the delivery charge is only $2.50 a week. The convenience really cannot be beat. Each week they will send a reminder email to place your order. Additionally, it keeps your master list saved, so all we have to do is click master list each week and work from there (it even saves a list of everything ever bought). The best part is you don't "splurge" shop because you usually just stick to the list. You may also find something from "President's Picks" which lets you know the freshest food of the week (how we first tried out our favorite asparagus recipe). So for about $50 a week, and if we only order in once that week, we found that cutting costs on food through shopping with Fresh Direct is really helpful! The food is especially fresh, because there is no middle man, the food lasts longer and saves money in the long run. The perks are plentiful as well. When you first sign up, they send free produce every once in a while. Then, they offer you a Chef's Table membership, where you get to reserve a time slot once a week (were 10-11:30PM Sunday people), and special deals on the "foods of the week."

They surprised us twice this week:
1. With FREE laundry detergent (organic) in our delivery on Sunday

2. With a FREE frozen entree meal (we got to choose 1 of 4) that will be delivered this week!
We'll update on how both work out!

Today, one of our pet deal sites, Pawsley, let us know they had the Tuffy toys on sale (Pawlsey donates 4% of your purchase to shelters). This was very exciting because so many of you had told us to get a level 8-10 toy for Havi due to her being an ultimate chewer. We ordered the Level 10 Mega Tuffy Ring for $21 and free shipping, and cant wait to play with it in Central Park. We're actually allowing Havi a toy besides tennis balls, Kongs, and the IQ ball!

In a full circle, Law Student's mom had asked last week for a chew free bed. Well, the Tuffy toy deal on Pawsley was being offered by IndestructibleDog. and they sell Kuranda beds. I had read somewhere in the blog world, that this was the bed to beat. Alas, love when everything ties together!

As a Friday night sign off, we wanted to say thank you for guessing what breed of pup Havi is! While we agree with many of you, yes Havi is a shelter mix and there is no need to pigeon-hole her, we think its funny when people come up with random guesses. People always stop us on the street to let us know what type of pup she is. Our favorite is when people say "is she a pit?! pits are always so sweet."

1. The Rescue told us she was a Lab/Boxer/Terrier mix (we love when Rescues say Terrier instead of Pit)
2. The Fosters, swore she is a Great Dane. We NEVER saw this, until we visited our friends over at No Saddle Required. We saw they have a Harlequin Great Dane, which means it has black and white spots - all over - just like on Havi's paws and chest!
3. Many people tell us shes a Dalmation, because of the spots on her paws
4. Two Pitties thought Havi might be a lab like Corbin, we definitely see that in her body type
5. Some claim Ridgeback - we dont see it.
6. We think she looks just like Maisie from Maisie and Me
7. She's Havi, and her name means love, which totally makes sense, because she has a heart on her chest!
Have a great weekend!
(ah! pit bull attack!)

Prince Charming & Some Deals

Today I realized that we do have another pet who never gets much attention. Our 1 year, 3 month old Betta Fish - Prince Charming!

Charmy was our first pet, and his bowl now serves as the centerpiece for our table. We realized that Havi has never paid him much mind - so we tried to introduce them. That didn't go so well...
We were wondering what other pets you have, that you may not feature in your blogs and comments!

Dealwise:

- BarkingDeals.com has a $10 for $20 deal on PetRX.com

- Dental Student and I bought a Groupon for a visit to the Jewish Museum this summer in NYC.
- And Delia's is selling this super cute shirt for $24 that benefits the Humane Society!

rainy, tired, finals wednesday

I left Havi at 6am, she was too lazy to even follow me into the kitchen...so I thought Id share a few pictures of Havi in her favorite position: sleeping.

finals mania

The two grad students are in total finals craziness! Havi is definitely not thrilled to be second fiddle to our studies. She stays home most of the day with Dental Student, who is a much better "at home" studier. Dental Student reports that she mopes around the house begging to be played with! Poor pup...if only she knew that fun walks, runs, parks that await her in two weeks!

Everyday, we are approached by people who let us know what breed they think Havi is. She was advertised to us by her foster parents as one thing, the vet told us another, and every subsequent person has had a new opinion! So today we thought we'd ask you - what breed(s) do you think Havi is?!
